2018-2019 SFL Preview: Curtin Footbalista

Last season: 1st (Championship)

One of the original members in the Championship. The club promptly prepared for a season in top division in true SFL fashion, winning the Minor Premiership but falling agonisingly short when confronted with hurdles in the finals.

Well drilled on and off the court keep an eye out for social media announcements for a few marquee names. Mason Vojdani looks to play a massive role in the upcoming season. A serial winner and one time captain of one of the most illustrious Cambio Cumbre sides in recent memory, he shunned other approaches to help his compatriots. The burly target rarely skips leg day, Footballista will be hoping he rarely misses chances too.

Farzam Mehrabi seems a name destined for centre stage this season. The reigning Championship MVP and poster boy during his sides recruitment drive provides the kind of physical goal threat defences loath and teammates love. If he can get support from out wide in a few willing runners he and Vojdani could create mayhem when they combine to form tandem battering rams.

With Saeed Danesh and Behrad Shirvani keeping on and off field matters ticking over they have the base and the smarts to become a feature at the business end of the season. The fixture computer churned out a bundle of familiar names in the opening rounds for the Persian side with a bundle of old foes from the Championship. With a little luck and putting that experience from the Championship to good use, don’t be surprised to see Footballista toward the top of the pile when December rolls in.

Main Man: Saeed Danesh

The speedy winger of yesteryear may be no longer, but the veteran has experience in spades these days. Mentored by Raffaele Cappasso and El Abrahams in the past the Muita Calma man briefly ventured away from the comforts of retirement to win the SFL with Murdoch Warriors not too long ago. Still with the shimmy and turn of pace to leave defenders at sea, he may find himself on the bench a touch more these days. But his know how and leadership will be vital for Footballista as they find their feet in the SFL.

One to Watch: Mason Vojdani

We know, he probably should he the main man. After a few years of non stop futsal the league heavyweight made do with power lifting and watching the live streams these past few months. Now back up top and taking a wrecking ball to league defences, it’s high time the softly spoken star serves a perfect reminder to the SFL just how good he is.
