Fremantle held off a fast finishing Perth AFC by the skin of their teeth last season after pushing for a top two berth in the opening salvos of the winter season. Can Daniel Muzzarelli and Penny Rinaldi mastermind a title winning campaign this time around?
They started in the perfect fashion, fending off heated competition to sign Clara Darde in a massive coup. The SFA and WSFL Golden Glove winner known quality and undoubtedly good for a few points over the course of the season. With Draft Golden Glove winner Indi Devries sure to get airborne for the Draft side and press for WSFL Fremantle are in good hands.
On field it’s more of the same. Kim McCartney the standout and a pivotal part of the Fremantle machine. Ange Cheaib was a contender for MVP honours before injury struck and nearly cost her a trip to Melbourne. Now is her time to remind the league of the high notes she can hit before Epril Nossent and Christiane Astorp take all the plaudits.
The fall of Stirling has opened up the league like no season before.
Fremantle claimed the WSFL Draft title in the Winter. Can they kick on to take out the big one in the summer?
Main Lady: Kim McCartney
She has all the attributes to flourish in the modern pressing game. Comfortable on the ball, quick, agile and links defence and attack almost seamlessly. Not to mention always good for a few spectacular strikes from range. When McCartney fires watch Fremantle soar up the ladder, and prepare for a one sentence speech if she takes out best in the league honours.
One to Watch: Ange Cheaib
The all action flanker was in peerless form before a cruel knee injury hamstrung her barnstorming start to the season. Hard in the tackle and quick down the line, the box to box dynamo was sorely missed as Fremantle found themselves in a dogfight for finals. Refreshed, rested and restricted to the sidelines for far too long, it’s high time to remind everyone what she’s capable of
